Progressive Studies for the Popular Pianist
          Dear Prospective Students,

The following is a brief outline of my teaching program.  Naturally, much of what I do in private and group instruction is adapted toward the needs of each student.

I have developed and curriculized several programs a student can achieve.  We begin by developing your ability to improvise, compose, arrange and play by ear. The course is designed to teach you the "short cuts" that most professional pianist have learned.  Giving you the skills to play "well" in a very short time.

This should provide the motivation to enjoy your hidden talents by playing full rich arrangements of your favorite music, while we continue to develop the more "regimented" skills of reading music.

Your reading skills are developed in three areas:

            • Sight Reading
            • Level Pieces (which take approximately a week or so to learn)
            • Concert Pieces (which could take several weeks to learn)

            •
We cover the gamut of styles and periods, from Classical to New Age to Rock and Jazz to Latin and Ragtime.  You will no doubt have your favorite styles and tunes, which we can also focus on.

I also provide opportunities for you to perform with a "band" and computer sequenced synthesizers, often at Recitals, or during your private and group lessons.

Your lesson time is divided into three areas:

            • Private              (three half hour lessons a month)
            • Group                (one, one hour group class a month)
            • Computer Lab    (I recommend an hour each week you have a private lesson)

            •
I have used a seven station computer lab for the past few years to help develop your foundational musical skills such as rhythm, ear training, and music theory.  The advantages of working with computers is numerous, the goal is to internalize your musical talents, so you will be able to read, improvise, and interpret music fluently.

I would love to show you my studio, and demonstrate some of what you will learn.  Please feel free to call and set up an appointment.

           Thank you,
